Activated Gift

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah. 1st Samuel 16:11-13

Isn’t funny how that even after been anointed David’s worth was still not felt. After the who is who sons of Jesse were rejected by God and David, the forgotten, accepted and anointed you would think that his family from then would adore him or at least treat him a bit better than before, but nothing of the sort happened. If anything he went back to the very flock he was got from.

His family might not have not understood the major transformation that took place upon his anointing, but David and heavens did. Something had shifted in the supernatural and David knew that in a matter of time, the physical would shift too.

His gift had just been activated!

And it did not take long before the King was in need of a harpist

But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him. 15 And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you. 16 Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well.” So Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.” Then one of the servants answered and said, “Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the Lord is with him.” Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.” 1st Samuel 16:14-19

Even in the bushes with the sheep, David was still locatable. When the anointing of God is resting upon you, it doesn’t matter how hidden you are and in what pit you lay, the Spirit of God in you makes you locatable. It was time for the vision in the life of David to speak and no one could quiet it. The vision as the Word states is for an appointed time, and when the time comes, it must speak.

That day had come in the life of David. Like it will for you. Amen.

Not only did he play the harp for the king, but, he also obtained favor in the eyes of Saul. Again what the anointing of God does, it makes you favorable.

That was another step into kingship, and a testament to the anointing that had just been poured on him.

God does not waste anointing. His anointing begins to manifest you. It is the anointing that makes you locatable, it is the same anointing that presents your gift before kings. That is why when King Saul was troubled, the Spirit of God had to use one of his servants to come up with a solution in the form of a skill that only David possessed. Even if there were other harpists in the land, who I believe existed, only David’s skill was recognizable for this appointed time.

And boom! Just like that David made his way into the palace. It was not a daily job but at least the shifts allowed him the chance to frequent the throne he was anointed for.

Thank God for the ‘shift job’ you have, at least it allows you to enter the palace.

Thank Him for the peeps He allows you to have before a look at the whole picture

Thank God for the preview He allows you to see prior to the movie.

Some of us are too ungrateful to even notice the shifts He has put us in,

Too blind to notice the small openings that come our way.

Too fixated on the big picture to notice and praise even when we are half way there.

David, much as he had much greater gifts within him, never took for granted his musical gift. And it is through that gift that he first sat with the king.

He became a frequent at the palace, never too rush to possess the throne, but also, wise enough to seize every moment.

The good thing about having gone through the wilderness is that it teaches you never to be too rush, proud or greedy. Even with the anointing, David understood seasons. He knew it was time to calm the evil Spirit in Saul, and not time to take the throne.

Anointing goes hand in hand with wisdom.

David not only observed diligence on the assignment at hand, but he also occasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem. That is the humility that comes with the anointing! I wonder what and how some of us would behave if we were in the very same shoes. Anyway, something to ponder on.

Then Jesse said to his son David, “Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dried grain and these ten loaves, and run to your brothers at the camp. And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers fare, and bring back news of them.” … So David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, and took the things and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the camp as the army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle. For Israel and the Philistines had drawn up in battle array, army against army. And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers. Then as he talked with them, there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistines; and he spoke according to the same words. So David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid… So the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and it shall be that the man who kills him the king will enrich with great riches, will give him his daughter, and give his father’s house exemption from taxes in Israel.” Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” … Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him. Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 1st Samuel 17: 17- 31

You’ve got to love the God of David. He now accords him an opportunity to go the battle field. The place where he belongs. The minute he landed into the battle field something resonated with him. His Spirit must have gotten the affirmation, and he must have heard a whisper “David you were created for this!” He must have seen flashbacks in his mind of when he killed a bear and a lion as he tended his father’s flock. And he felt within himself “all along I was busy thinking I am taking care of our flock while in real sense, I was being trained to wage war even with giants and prevail.”

And David, unafraid inquired “What shall be done to the man that falls this giant?” He asked knowing he was capable. He asked for the reward because he had already seen the end of the giant. Wow! The anointing of God gives you courage and confidence to confront giants others are running away from.

When David heard and saw goliath he was unmoved. The empowered gift in him identified so well with goliath and his assignment to slay giants was sharpened, and sunk well within, that he was created to fall giants. The once forgotten little shepherd was now speaking giant slaying language, and for the first time people cared to listen and afterward, took the word to the king on his behalf.

His time had come and it was undeniable! Even when his brother tried to silence him and put him off, the rest of the soldiers were interested in hearing what David had to offer. The anointing was so real to the extent that they cared to listen and respond to David instead of Eliab, his brother whom they were in the army together with.

And David, he no longer cared for his brother’s mockery, he had matured to the point of knowing that he was no longer the little flock shepherd Eliab defined him as. No one was going to take him back to the flocks when it was his time to be in the battle field leading the troops. He knew this was his chance and moment of unveiling. He was taking no chances.

You will encounter Eliabs, oh yes, you will but you cannot allow them to silence you. Eliabs think they know you too well to the point they want to assign you. They will never stop reminding you of your past and how you still belong there, But no! The empowered gift in your life cannot allow such words to penetrate and form into thoughts.

Goliath existed for David to be manifested.

For the warrior anointing over his life to be unleashed, David had to confront the giant.

Thank God for the lions and bears you’ve had to fight in the past, but, that is just part of your personal story that prepares you for a much bigger battle that will open your eyes into knowing the purpose for your creation. The battle will resonate with you so well to the point that you will not be afraid.

David in the Bible fought the most battles ever recorded and the anointing of God over his life is what preserved him through them all.

The defeat of goliath was the beginning of David’s greatness! The story of David begun to be told. A young boy who was once a no body encountered the anointing of God that brought out his gift which later took him to dimensions that nations still speak about him to date.

We need men and women that can stand and confront giants, chains and bondages over the sons and daughters of God. We need soldiers alert and unafraid to confront corruption, terrorism, homosexuality, sicknesses, diseases, calamities and every other evils and schemes of the enemy in our society. We need people brave enough to confront things that people are running away from.

We need Christians with empowered and activated gifts!

I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2nd Tim 1: -7
