I Have No One

But, I have No One…

We all are trying to get somewhere so fast and be first at the same time. Thing is, the systems of the world have already been set and competition seems to be the order of the day. Well, we can only do so little, if nothing about that and that leaves toiling as an essential part of our daily lives.

So in our quest for ambition, the question becomes, what trail are we following? How stuck are you to the script or instructions?

Moving swiftly to my script before I lose you on this. The man by the pool, (John 5) had been by the same pool for 38 years. The instruction was simple yet hard depending on one’s ailment; remember this was a pool where a great number of sick people lay. The instruction was; an angel of the Lord went down at appointed seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was cured of whatever disease with which he was afflicted.

Easy…right? Well if you have a stomach ache, headache or a broken arm it is indeed so easy because running is obviously not a problem. But let’s take a minute and picture a blind person, the waters have been troubled and he needs to get inside the pool, so he starts running but sadly is running towards the wrong direction, poor man. Better yet, let us just stay with our guy here, crippled. He can clearly see the pool, sees the waters as they are troubled but as he tries to get to the pool someone always outruns him and for 38 years that had always been the case. Sad indeed.

I’ve got to however hand some credit to the crippled man because one thing that’s for sure is that whenever the waters were troubled he always tried to move. It is written that any time the waters were troubled, he never got a chance to be cured because he never got there as the first person as per the instruction but he always moved. So one day Christ appeared to him and simply asked “do you want to be cured?” The response he gave was really interesting. He said “I have nobody when the water is moving, to put me into the pool”.

Make me wonder, why do we always answer the wrong question?

See, the question only required a yes/no response but look at the entire excuse the crippled man gave for an answer! Any way

Pretty much our society, you are well educated, well qualified for a job but you only lack the connection. Just like the crippled man, when its interview time, when its job time you have nobody to enter you to the panelists or to get you to the job. Maybe you have no money to bribe the judge for a fair verdict; and so the only reason you are not succeeding is because you have nobody or nothing.

I am not sure whether there was any more instructions given by the angel concerning how one should get into the pool but clearly people must have devised their own mechanisms to get the pool. Maybe a payment system was innovated where the fastest or richest men would help only the people they knew or the people that could afford. And that would explain why the man, instead of talking about his own inabilities as well as expressing his own credentials of how and why he deserved the chance, first complains and mentions his lack of a man to take him to the pool when the waters are troubled to be made whole.

As I read and analyzed this story, I realize and understood that it is us, we are the bunch of sick people by the pool, each waiting for a turn to be first to get in and be cured of whatever need it is we have.

The need for “a man” is the language of a corrupted and competitive system, the one we live in. The need for connections has been stressed than that of fairness. Otherwise how else would you explain why people, sane people for that matter would let a man lie sick and in expectation for an entire 38 years without ever giving a hand?

For him to say “I have no man” means that most, if not all the people that were cured had men, they “knew people who knew people” or as simply put, they were well connected, “they fit the bill”! A clearly depiction of  the selfishness, evil and greed in our society, people with lesser ailments come and leave those in severe situations without caring after all, every man for himself, God for us all. Right?

But I love our God, He is a just judge because when he comes he goes straight to the severe and long stayed patients like what He did with this crippled man.

And that’s why I started this read by asking, what instructions and script you reading from?

If you are strictly stuck on the competition to get to the pool then you might miss your visitation time because when Christ comes He breaks all protocols. He is the connections, He is the pool, He is the healing, and He is basically that miracle that you desperately need.

As you read the script be sensitive and keen that you do not miss your time and when He comes realize that it’s a question of a yes/no response.

Maybe just like the crippled man, you have no one and all you see is people coming after you but getting cured and leaving before you .Here is the deal, be fair in the competition but most importantly let Him find you trying to get into the pool. Keep moving and do not despair. A time and chance happen to the all.

Ecclesiastes 9:11

The race is not to the swift,

Nor the battle to the strong,

Nor bread to the wise,

Nor riches to men of understanding,

Nor favor to men of skill;

But time and chance happen to them all
